To make sure your relationships are healthy and balanced, it’s important to practice “emotional fitness.”
We tend to think that once we establish friendships or relationships, they will take care of themselves. But our social life is a living system, and it needs practice.
Relationship is not a wall that you make once and leave forever. It is a plant which needs constant watering.
EMO-FIT can help….Let’s start the practice!!!
The No. 1 key to a happy life: ‘Emotional Fitness’
I did not say this. Harvard’s 85 year old research proved this.
In 1938, Harvard researchers embarked on a decades-long study to find out: What makes us happy in life?
Contrary to what we all might think, it’s not career achievement, money, exercise, or a healthy diet. The most consistent finding we’ve learned through 85 years of study is: Positive relationships keep us happier, healthier, and help us live longer. Period.
“The surprising finding is that our relationships and how happy we are in our relationships has a powerful influence on our health,” said Robert Waldinger, director of the study, a psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital and a professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. “Taking care of your body is important, but tending to your relationships is a form of self-care too. “
Close relationships, more than money or fame, are what keep people happy throughout their lives, the study revealed.
Positives like – happiness, excitement, gratitude, and love – can give happiness. Negative emotions — like anger, judgement, jealousy, criticism— can give pain.
Positive emotions render us fit emotionally to make healthy relations while negative emotions are detrimental to healthy relationships.
Emo-Fit is a kind of mental yoga that is focused on practicing the basic skills involved in taming negative emotions like : temper, judgements, criticism etc.
Icing on the cake would be the practice of booster skills such as introspection, acceptance and gratitude. Emo-Fit does it all for you.
Introspection or Experimental self observation.
Emo-Fit trains people to carefully analyze their own thoughts and actions so that they understand why they think or feel in a certain way. This is also known as Introspection.
Introspection helps improve:
Example : Reflection is understanding why you reacted violently to a friend’s criticism - Is it because you felt belittled, insulted as your weakness was exposed?
Do not shy away from introspection - Is there a human without weakness?
Self-Acceptance is understanding and accepting the deficiencies of self. People have trouble accepting themselves because of guilt or fear of being judged.
Accepting - others is understanding the deficiencies of others with empathy.
It’s simple, every human alive will have some or the other deficiency. This fact sounds simple, but extremely hard to accept and practice.
Emo-Fit can help with the practice.
Gratitude is when you feel thankful for the good things in your life. This could be stuff people often take for granted, like having a place to live, food, clean water, friends, and family. Gratitude is taking a moment to reflect on how lucky you are when something good happens, whether it's small or big.
Gratitude can:
Practice Gratitude regularly, you become aware of good things as they happen.
